Tom Taylor

Tom Taylor

Native Texan, former teacher and professional actor, currently  award-winning storyteller (Liars Contest Winner, Tejas Storytelling Festival, 2007), selected for the Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Artist Roster,  musician and author/poet, Tom - intimidated by the overwhelming salary heaped upon Texas public school teachers - fled the classroom to focus on storytelling.

He's performed in an assortment of foreign countries, as well as such diverse American venues as L.A.s Skid Row, the White House, Off-Broadway,  Ford's Theater, the Library of Congress, "Prairie Home Companion," television and films, as well as many schools, libraries, camps, conferences, churches, nursing homes and hospitals, jails, prisons, clubs, businesses and the like.

Tom's written 800+ stories, songs, ballads and poems, in addition to several books for children.  His interactive presentations, which can be tailored to the  individual venue, generally include, primarily, his original, home-grown tales, poems, ballads and musical concoctions.
He'll also share some of his very favorite folk tales and tall tales.

Tom strives to create the most effective possible combination
of stories, music and poems to provide encouragement, laughter, understanding, insight and inspiration to his every audience.  Programs generally feature a fun "tutorial" on our American folk rhythms:  spoons, bones, hamboning, paper bags, etc.  The experience provides audiences, of whatever age, the opportunity to learn and display a delightful new skill.  All ages love it - in fact, more than once, Taylor has witnessed from both teachers and students...and, yes, Administrators and Maintenance folks...short outbursts of fervent, impassioned, spontaneous dancing!
